Goals for 2016 #realistic & #pipedreams

new_year_2016

Yesterday, I wrote at length about a few of my favorite things about 2015, but nostalgia is so yesterday, so we’ll be moving steadily into the present today. It is 2016, and as such I have concocted a bunch of goals and dreams that I would like to achieve within the next 12 months. Some of these will be reasonable, and others are high apple pie in the sky goals, but if we don’t push ourselves to the limits, how will we ever discover what our true limits are? So without further ado, and as minimal an amount of gilding the lily as possible, I present to you:

Nerfed Llamas Official Goals for 2016!

Start a YouTube Channel. I know, I could hardly keep this blog updated on a regular basis, and now I’m talking about creating a YouTube channel. It seems daunting, and I am still wrapping my head around the whole idea, but I’m thinking that I could very likely swing a new video once a week. Nothing too extravagant, especially not at first. I’m thinking something along the lines of humorous entertainment commentary and/or satire. Short videos, no longer than 5 minutes. Start small with minimally necessary edits and cuts, and expand as my skill in editing improves, and if the videos develop an audience that craves more and varied content. This is a way to expand the brand, but also a way to start monetizing my efforts. If this takes off, I could eventually start a Patreon account and potentially make some decent monthly scratch. The money comes later, first I need to finalize my format and how I want to film these monologues. If you have any ideas or suggestions, let me know!

Post on This Blog 4 Times a Week. I had some ups and downs posting on my silly Nerfed Llamas blog. Part of it could be blamed on my actual (soul sucking) full time job, and some of it could be blamed on the burdens of adulthood and real life (etc., yadda yadda yadda, and so on and so forth), but truthfully those are just excuses (and particularly lame ones at that). The true culprit is myself. That’s right, I’m the bad guy of this piece. So, in order to redeem myself, I have decided start planning this blog out in advance, and to work on these drafts ahead of time, so as to keep the content flowing smoothly each week. Also, I am giving myself a 3 day weekend. I tried the 5 times a week thing, and it didn’t go so well, so that’s that – no more . I will aim for at least 4 times a week. The mini-goal is for at least one commentary, one review, one original fiction piece, and a web comic. If, and this is a ginormous if, I feel up to it, i will post more content above and beyond the 4 times. But again, I would prefer to start small and expand once I get a proper rhythm going.

Voice Acting. I have a supreme interest in breaking into this field. I have been slowly but steadily researching what is necessary to make a go of this, and am assessing all of the hurdles that I will need to jump through in order to get started. Surprisingly, it doesn’t take much to make a demo reel with a website CV in order to submit it out to studios and agents, but not unsurprisingly is that the market is exceptionally competitive in this line of work and the chances of a rookie voice actor scoring decent work early on is fairly slim. I will likely have to aim heavily for the low hanging fruit, and even that might be a bit of a stretch. Even still, it’s a pet project of mine this year, and I’m going to attempt to pursue it as best as I can. Wish me luck!

Farting. I want to fart more, not only in volume but in robustness of sound and opulently pungent odor. Also, I am just kidding on this one. This was a test to see if you made it this far. Congratulations, you just laughed at a well planned fart joke.

Fitness. I need to get back on the DDP Yoga train and get into back into decent shape. Along with this desire to exercise more (including this dope whisper quiet stationary bike that I have, but never use… because of course I never use it), I hope to focus on portion control and eating better quality food in general. This last goal is rather slapdash, so i haven’t had a chance to suss it all out properly yet, but rest assured, while I drink a Margarita tonight, it will get thought out some more, and eventually a plan will form. Until then, exercise I can do, and DDP Yoga is actually a ridiculous amount of fun, so that starts this week for sure. BANG!

And that’s about it. I just want to do a better job creating new content, expanding my horizons, and taking care of my temple. Also, I may want to improve my gas game, or perhaps not (we’ll see how that one plays out). At the very least, the readers (and hopefully viewers) will be the true winners here, as any and all new content that I create, in whatever form it may ultimately come in, will be new and exciting stuff for all of you. I hope you have a great 2016, and that you challenge yourself to your very own set of impossibly lofty goals as well!IMG_9876
